ABOUT AMBITS

Perpet Audio® is a new dj equipment brand made in France founded by Bastien CARRIERE (AMEN from his dj's name)

Bastien's idea was to conceive as a first product an analog dj mixer with an elegant design, choosing matte black for the entire mixer, white for screen printing as well as for the illuminated push buttons and vumeters, and having a touch of color only for vumeters that clip orange. That the ergonomics be very readable, in particular by the symmetrical layout of the buttons, that the sound delivered be of high quality and to keep only the buttons actually used by 95% of the djs on a 4-channel pro dj mixer. Thus by purifying the number of buttons (on the dj mixers most used in clubs there are a hundred, while the PAM-4 has only about fifty) it was possible to choose high quality components, because even if they are more expensive they are 2 times less numerous. And of course the Perpet Audio's guideline was to be produced 100% made in France.

The purpose of the PAM-4 is to try as much as possible to be the best of both worlds of the mixer models most used in clubs, analyzing what is most interesting and qualitative in each. That's why we did comparative tests of 4 of these mixers at the start of the development work, as well as at the end to finally arrive on a V1 of the PAM-4 the best possible, and which will be commercialized from the end of March 2023 and which you can buy through this Kickstarter.

The audio touch of the PAM-4 is intended to be in the same vein as its design, refined, elegant, making the sound that passes through as beautiful and faithful as possible in relation to how it was produced and mastered. For us, a dj mixer should be like a hifi amp in the quality of sound reproduction that passes through it, but a hifi amp with buttons to mix the sound at the level of EQs, filters, effects. And unfortunately during our comparative tests we were able to observe that some of the most used dj mixers in clubs had a sound rendering too digitized, probably because part of the sound is digitally processed, and that at the reverse some of the all-analog rotary dj mixers had a sound with a sound coloring almost a little too marked with an elegant distortion but which doesn't suit everyone's taste and every styles of electronic musics... and that beyond the sound aspect the rotary dj mixers are not suitable for all playing styles, especially techno music styles, whose djs will always opt for a dj mixer with faders.

To get the most respectful sound possible from the signal going into the mixer we've chosen high quality components for building the analog circuits of the PAM-4. For everything regarding the signal treatment all is analog, we've used some digital chips but not for passing the sound through, just to order the routing of the filters. We have also taken particular care to vinyl playing, especially vinyl playing in clubs on large sound systems. As any dj who wants to play vinyl in a club knows there is the risk of rumble, which is generally only managed by mechanical solutions with special supports for the turntables, the cell of the turntable adjusted in a particular way, etc. But it seemed to us that we never really took into account the sound source that favors the rumble, ie quite simply the sound coming out of the mixer. This is why the PAM-4 is equipped with a Rumbleless® system which minimizes the risk of rumble at the master output of the mixer.

The PAM-4 has everything a dj wants and needs with an analog dj mixer, only the effects are missing but for that there is a per channel send to an FX loop, and you also have to know that the third product that Perpet Audio will release is planned to be a multi-FX! The PAM-4 has a power supply which allows it to be connected to 110V or 220V without any risk for the machine which converts itself the voltage that passes through it.
